60 / BUILDING DIALOGUE / March 2022 K ing’s Pond has long been considered one of the best resort experience pools in the world, but new additions to the exclusive Five Di- amond-rated Four Seasons Hualālai Resort on the island of Hawaii takes the concept of “pond” to a whole new level. When the Four Seasons Hualālai reopened its doors to the outside world in December 2020, following a multimillion-dollar renovation, there was much for its beloved guests to be excited about. Updates to all guest accommodations were made with fresh new furnishing and spacious designs, but nothing tops the new lounge deck and infinity pool overlooking the famous King’s Pond, complete with a swimmable aquarium and 400-square-foot Kumu Kai marine center. Our firm was the lead designer, proj- ect driver and contractor on the proj- ect while working alongside Hualālai Resort CEO Pat Fitzgerald; Jay Uyeda, vice president of development and con- struction; and Malia Cook, director of special projects. BrightView Design Group designed the renovations and BrightView Landscape Development completed the construction in a comprehensive design-build effort. Connecting Landscape Design to Hawaii’s Natural Environment at King’s Pond Hualālai Brent Lloyd Managing Principal, BrightView Perched above King’s Pond is an infinity-edge pool with two whirlpools, two new spas, and an additional ipe wood deck for lounge seating with a full-service bar.
