6 Gulf Pine Catholic • February 16, 2024 The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will be one of the largest Eucharistic pilgrimages in history. It will cover 6,500 miles and spend 60 days on the road. Just as crowds followed Christ, we have the opportunity to walk with our Eucharistic Lord June 10-14. This is a significant moment for us to come together as a Church! We will begin this pilgrimage with the Mass at Our Lady of the Gulf in Bay St. Louis the morning of Monday, June 10. On Tuesday, June 11, the pilgrimage will walk with the Blessed Sacrament in procession to St. Paul Chapel in Pass Christian. On Wednesday, June 12, the pilgrimage procession will continue by walking with our Lord to St. Thomas the Apostle in Long Beach. On Thursday, June 13, the pilgrimage will con- tinue at St. James Parish, Gulfport, and the Eucharistic Procession will walk to Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral for the completion of the pilgrimage in our Diocese. The following morning, Mass will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Parish in Ocean Springs to send forth the pilgrims for the next steps in their journey across our country with our Lord to the National Eucharistic Congress. Eucharistic Revival Update From page 1 ¡Un emocionante evento nacional se acerca a la Diócesis de Biloxi como parte del Avivamiento Eucarístico Nacional! I invite all the faithful to join us in these days of pilgrimage. We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, special speakers, and presentations at each of the churches along the route. It is going to be a wonderful opportunity to grow in love and devotion to the Eucharist. The National Eucharistic Congress will be a moment in which we as a Church will come together to celebrate the love we have of Jesus in the Eucharist and the love that Jesus has for us as He becomes present in His body and blood to us. I encourage you to be a part of the National Eucharistic Congress. It has been 83 years since we have had a National Eucharistic Congress in our country. This will be the first time that it has happened within our generation. We are excited that we have the opportunity to come together with the larger Church as the body of Christ in the United States to celebrate the Eucharist! At the Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, there will be special presentations for youth and adults in English and Spanish. There will be an opportunity for people to participate in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We are expecting somewhere between 80,000 and 100,000 Catholics to be present. I have invited and encouraged participation from each of our parishes and, as we begin the third year of the Eucharistic Revival for the Church in the United States. The National Eucharistic Revival, the Pilgrim- age, and Congress are a jumping off point for us as a Church to increase Eucharistic devotion for Jesus’ body and blood present in our midst in the Eucharist. We are witnessing the fruits in the Diocese of Biloxi as we grow in zeal for Jesus in the Eucharist and take to heart the reality of Jesus’ body and blood present to us in the Eucharist! As one of the bishops who said “yes” to having the Eucharistic Revival on a national scale, I am excited by the possibility of us coming together. I invite you to participate in whatever way you can to continue our growth in our devotion to Jesus’ gift of Himself in His body and His blood. As a Church, we are proclaiming in a tangible way to all the faithful and to the world that the Eucharist is the body and blood of Jesus Christ!
