14 Gulf Pine Catholic • March 29, 2024 Nativity BVM School EXPLORE students are taking their businesses on the road! On Tuesday, April 9, between 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Nativity of the BlessedVirginMaryCatholic Elementary School EXPLORE students will host Downtown Nativity , a presentation of individual business trucks created through this year’s entrepreneurship program. This event will be held in the school gymnasium, which is located directly behind the Biloxi Visitor Center. Come EXPLORE with us! EXPLORE is the program for second-sixth grade gifted students at Nativity School. Under the instruction of Zina Puzz, this year’s EXPLORE unit focused on entrepreneurship and what it takes to be a business owner. Each student has developed a business from the ground up and will be showcasing their business by selling items from their “business truck” at this event. Set up in the gym, Nativity students, friends and family will be able to walk through “Downtown Nativity” and shop for their favorite items. Truck success will be determined on profitability at the end of the day. “Having these students develop something of their very own was instrumental to the success of this project,” states Puzz. “Every successful business is born from a single idea. The goal of this project is to foster the necessary skills for our students to stand on their own.” Everyone is invited to come take part in this fun event. Guests are encouraged to tour the entire downtown community and purchase items which they find unique, exciting or just fun! Founded in 1956, Nativity BVM Catholic Elementary focuses on the spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic, social, psychological and physical capacities of each child. Nativity BVM Catholic Elementary School launches Downtown Nativity ! The students of Our Lady of Fatima C.C.D., grades 1-4 were able to view a St. Joseph Altar and receive a lesson about the altar by the grade five students. The grade five students also presented the “Tupa Tupa” which in Italian means “ Knock Knock.” This is the Holy Family's search for food and shelter which is an integral part of the St. Joseph's Altar celebration. The ritual begins with St. Joseph knocking on three doors, looking for food and shelter for his family. The first two doors the Holy Family is told “There is no room for you here.” The third door the Holy Family is greeted with a joyful response “Welcome to this house. The table is set. The food is prepared. Come in and honor us with your presence.” Fr. Charles Arthur blessed the Altar. All the breads, fruit and can goods donated by the students on the altar were given to Fatima’s St. Vincent de Paul Society. Left, Father Charles Athur and students Mary Addison Nguyen and Joseph Jacob Maharrye present the St. Joseph’s Altar.
