Gulf Pine Catholic • May 10, 2024 15 We congratulate our Marine Science Program for presenting at the Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM) this year! The OSM is a biennial event that brings together the largest international gathering of ocean scientists, engineers, students, educators, policy- makers, and other stakeholders to share their research, applications, and education outcomes. This year's conference was held in New Orleans and had almost 6,000 attendees. It was the fourth time that the St. Stanislaus Marine Science Program partici- pated in this conference. Seniors Chesley Rhodes and Brady Wallis have committed to playing college baseball at Jones College. Rhodes is a power-hitting right fielder for the Rock-A-Chaws, while Wallis is a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher who also excels as a hitter and first baseman. Congratulations to our baseball Rock- A-Chaws! The Rock-A-Chaw band program, directed by Daniel Rorabaugh, participated in the MHSAA State Concert Evaluation held in Biloxi from March 4-7. During the event, the concert band received a supe- rior rating (the highest possible rating) for the sight-reading portion and a superior rating, along with two excellent ratings, for their concert perfor- mance. Jacob-Matthew, OFM, pastor at St. Clare in Waveland, presented a framed surplus to Mark Lander, who “retired” as an altar served after more than 38 years. A special needs parishioners at Our Lady of the Gulf served under just about all the priests assigned to OLG in his 38 plus years, including a couple occasions at St. Clare. The framed surplus was presented during the Children’s Mass at St. Clare on April 13 as a reminder to the children to be steadfast in their faith and always be willing to serve on the altar. His mother Ann was there to receive it along with Mark.
