Sergio Balderas has been pastor at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Ocean Springs for the past 10½ years. Recently he was re-assigned to Sacred Heart Parish in Hattiesburg. The St. Elizabeth Seton Parish Council organized a farewell day / dinner on June 1 called “The Last Supper.” Many parishioners, approximately 350, came to say goodbye to Fr. Sergio. The dinner and fellowship shared in this event was wonderful! A beautiful large homemade cake was made by a parishioner along with a beautiful homemade shadow box. All this and a large parish-wide donation were presented to Fr. Sergio as a remembrance of his St. Elizabeth Seton family. We would like to thank Fr. Sergio for all the wonderful things he has accomplished here with us. We are a stronger Catholic community because of his caring efforts, and we will miss him very much! Kids’ garden at Holy Rosary Church in Hattiesburg offers summer activity, education BY DAVID TISDALE Children attending Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hattiesburg are learn- ing valuable lessons this summer while growing delicious vegetables as they provide maintenance of a garden established on church grounds. Planned and prepared by the Holy Rosary Garden Club Committee, the purpose for planting the garden is to have a project that keeps the kids engaged in a fun, summertime activity, while also teaching them valuable lessons in how to grow and harvest vegetables and the responsibility for their care. Holy Rosary parishioners and others donated time, materials, and various supplies for the project, which kicked off May 15 with the children, supervised by committee members, planting the garden. All involved are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor as the summer progresses.
