18 Gulf Pine Catholic • August 30, 2024 Father Sergio Balderas, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Hattiesburg, and the principals from both Sacred Heart schools thank the team members who presented the Discipleship Day Retreat to the schools and parish staff. They learned about the Evangelization Retreat, “Come and see” (John 1:39). The parishioners from St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Ocean Springs who led the retreat were Bill Oster, Amy Meadows, Chris Young, Lisa Lumpkin and Caroline Knight. Discipleship Day Sacred Heart Parish in Hattiesburg recently started the first step of the discipleship pathways in both English and Spanish. Seven different groups are meeting and reflecting on the BE MY WITNESS program, 12-week sessions on the New Evangelization. Sacred Heart pastor Father Sergio Balderas thanks everyone for their support and willingness to walk this faith journey. Once the program is completed, Sacred Heart parishioners will form discipleship quads. Be My Witness S acred H eart P arish , H attiesburg A few of the St. Joseph Gulfport CYO youth and adults toured the Visitation Monastery in Mobile, AL, on June 19 to learn about the history of the mon- astery and the life of the cloistered nuns who still reside there. They left a donation of snacks for the various retreats the nuns host at the monastery throughout the year. Right, making enrichment treats for animals. On June 29, a few of our St. Joseph Gulfport CYO youth and family members volunteered at the Humane Society of South Mississippi. We learned how the Humane Society cares for the animals brought in, and we helped make enrichment treats for the cats and dogs. We had a wonderful time car- ing for God’s creation!
