Monday, Nov. 12 in the Rec. 1 Kings Room we’re having a party. Save the date! The party begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. (BYOB), followed by a catered buffet by Special Moments. Stuffed pork loin or pecan encrusted chicken will be served with all the fixings and pumpkin pie. Set-ups, ice, pop, water and coffee are included. We will be honoring the service of our veterans and the red, white and blue. So all you patriots out there, wear your best red, white and blue outfit. You could be selected as “most patriotic dressed!” Back by popular demand is Oly Mann. Oly will entertain us by singing all types of music. You can try a little dancing or maybe a karaoke tune or two. We will have the usual 50/50 drawing. Tickets will be sold Friday and Saturday Nov. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. - noon in the lobby of Rec. 2. Cost is $19 per person. All are welcome, bring your friends and neighbors. For more information, contact Dutch Schulz at 763-370-1781 or lwmngettogether@gmail.com . Open Door Social Submitted by Jackie Jooyan Our first Open Door of the season went off well, with a lot of folks attending. We were happy to see some new faces in the crowd, as well as familiar ones who returned to their winter residences in Leisure World. Our entertainer was vocalist Judy Anne who has performed for us in the past. She sang many genres of music and put smiles on the faces of those who attended. This month, on Friday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m., our entertainment will be a group who call themselves “The Music Folks.” These talented artists performed for us last year, and they gave a great program. The group plays various instruments and sings all kinds of music. Put the date on your calendars and come enjoy this free entertainment. After the program, we will recognize those folks who have had birthdays during the month of November by presenting the honorees with corsages and taking their pictures. The pictures can be picked up at next month’s Open Door. Refreshments will be served with coffee, tea or water. Open Door Social is free. It’s fun and is a great way to meet new folks and see old friends! For more information, contact Don Murphy at 480-807-8663. Photography Club Submitted by Jan Kelly Welcome back to a new season of the Leisure World Photography Club! Our meetings will be on Saturdays from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. throughout the season from October 2018 to March 2019. We are a club pen to all skill levels, beginners and beyond. Our activities include fun photo shoot outings, followed by lunch, education, participation in The Fall and Spring Art Shows, weekly challenges, guest lecturers and adding our photos to support one topic in the Leisure World Lecture series. We are now getting ready for the Fall Art Show on Saturday, Nov. 17, which is open to all residents, no club membership is required. The show is managed by The Fall Art ShowChair, Charlene Ingerson and assisted by our Photo Club members. Registration for the event will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 1. and close at noon on Monday, Nov. 5. For more information, contact the Fall Art Show Chair Charlene Ingerson at 401-473-4213, 480-699-0363 or ingerson.cb@gmail.com . Welcome back old members. We look forward to newcomers joining us! Pottery Club Submitted by Bonnie Rausch Discover the perfect holiday gifts for your loved ones at the Pottery Club booth Nov. 17 during the Leisure World Fall Arts and Crafts Fair. The raffle turtle will also be there and r ady fo you t take home if you’re the lucky winner! Republican Club Submitted by Diane Andersen “Only limited and carefully defined powe s should e delegated to government, all others being retained in the people.” – Declaration of Independence It is important for all eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote. The General Election polls will be open in Leisure World in the Club Room on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 6 to 7 p.m. It is the goal of the club to educate, encourage and i spire. Great speakers are invited to share those ideals each month. Our members have been busy helping residents register to vote, checking their voter status and reminding them to vote. This month, our Representative Congressman Andy Biggs is the featured guest speaker. He will provide updates on actions taking place in Washington, D.C. November is always a special time for our club. A tradition of serving a free slice of pumpkin pie to each attendee was started several years ago. Free refreshments and a 50/50 drawing are available each month. We encourage all conservative-minded residents and guests to attend our monthly meetings. The meetings start at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the Rec. 1 Ballroom. This month, the meeting is on November 19. Although you not need to be a club member to attend the meetings, we encourage you to join and pay a small annual fee of $5. This fee goes a long way toward paying the cost of holding the monthly meetings. For more information, contact Diane Andersen at 480-395-5515.
