Tennis Club Submitted by John Latus Let’s start with some good news! Exercise is good for your health and extending your life. That’s not news. But some forms of exercise are better than others. According to a new study published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, people who participate in team sports such as tennis, volleyball and soccer have a longevity advantage over people who participate in solitary exercise such as cycling, swimming, jogging or weight lifting. The study involved 8500 people monitored for 25 years. Compared to sedentary people, those who reported tennis as their main form of exercise could potentially add 9.7 years to their lifespan followed by badminton (6.2 years), jogging (3.2 years) and calisthenics (3.1 years). If you have friends considering joining the Tennis Club, show them these stats and direct them to our website: lwtennisnew@gmail.com . Some important dates: • Sunday, Nov. 4: Don’t forget the Welcome Back party mentioned in last month’s notes. • Monday, Nov. 5: Regular season play begins. • Wednesday Nov. 14: The Tennis Club meeting is at 4:00 p.m. in the Rec 1 ballroom. Several important issues will be discussed. • Saturday, Nov. 17: The Leisure World/Cottonwood Invitational is held here. Come and support our teams. • Saturday, Dec. 1: The annual Holiday Party starts at 5 p.m. at the Hopi/Pima Room in Rec. 2 with a 6 p.m. sit-down dinner catered by Premier and music by Guilty Pleasures.
