You won’t want to miss it! For over 20 years, thousands of buyers have looked forward to purchasing handmade and one-of-a-kind treasures. “There’s a lot to see and so many people making different things,” says Craft Fair Chairperson Diane Tyndal. It’s really cool.” But Diane warns that many in-demand items sell quickly. “Everything is reasonably priced,” explains Diane. “If the crafters were to take their items to high-end Tempe or Scottsdale, they’d be priced much higher. So buy what you like before the item gets sold!” Hot-Ticket Items As usual, there will be many special items available. A garden turtle, created by the Pottery Club, is once again a favorite. From start to finish, volunteers worked on the turtle for six weeks. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5. Another major attraction is a wooden dollhouse from the Woodshop Club. It measures 28-1/2 inches tall, 45 inches wide and has a depth of 24-1/2 inches. Furniture is included! Offered by a silent auction, the bidding starts at $125. “The dollhouse took several people and countless hours to make,” says Woodshop Club President Ira Leibowitz. “Proceeds from the dollhouse goes into a fund to make toys for disadvantaged kids and organizations. The rest of the money goes back into the club to pay for glue, machines and maintenance.” Love quilts? LW Quilters will raffle a large wildlife quilt, which measures 60 by 68 inches. The quilt took two weeks to make, thanks to the efforts of quilters Marie Sharkey and Mary Johnson. The club has 40 paid members who create over 150 beautiful, handmade items for charity every year. Raffle tickets will be $2 each or three for $5. And the best part: 100 percent of proceeds go to charity! Read On: Book Sale Also, don’t forget to stop at the book sale at the end of the Promenade. With 12 eight-foot tables filled with a wide choice of books, you won’t be disappointed. The sale has been an annual event for the last 50 years and is a significant fundraiser for the Leisure World Library. So, come by and show your support! “No dollars from the HOA fee goes to the library,” explains Book Sales Chairperson Nancy Rusten. “The library funds come from memorials, contributions, donations and the book sale. Also, the books are individually priced, except for the bargain books, priced at $2 per bag.” This free event is open to the public and runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Rec. 1. And if hunger hits, the Rendezvous Café will be there to sell food and drinks. Diane and all participating club members look forward to seeing you there! Cool weather, unique crafts and great books. The only thing missing is you! Turkey Trot 2018 “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” - Henry David Thoreau A sense of achievement is one of life’s most valuable rewards. It’s also what we strive for in providing meaningful and memorable experiences at Leisure World. It is in this spirit that the Lifestyle Department creates programs and events that are enlightening, engaging and give you an opportunity to set and achieve new goals. Among these events is the upcoming 4th annual Turkey Trot 5k, “Strong Thighs Before Pies!” This is an event designed for you—whether you are highly athletic or looking a new challenge. This is not about competing with others but pushing yourself to new heights. Join the fun by running, walking or doing a combination of both. The ultimate outcome of this event is for you to enjoy the weather, set new goals and have a great time! Don and Judy Evans at Turkey Trot 2017.
