And at Leisure World, we have our very own: Human Resources Manager Monet Stockwell. There’s nothing she can’t get done! She embraces challenges and thrives on solving any problem that comes her way—all in a day’s work. “I never know what employee issues will come through the door, including phone messages, emails and employee issues that might pop up,” Monet explains. “On a daily basis, I might work on human resource policies by reviewing and revising them, updating job descriptions, processing FMLA [Family and Medical Leave Act] requests and worker compensation claims.” And Monet does it all with a smile. An extrovert, she loves working with fellow employees and the public, especially potential employees. “Recruiting is a time-consuming process, but one of the most fun parts of my job,” Monet says. “I like meeting with different individuals and interacting with them. You see a wide variety of people when you interview. It’s a lot of fun.” Monet’s love of learning, infectious spirit and positive attitude are what makes her excel at her job. “Monet has done an exceptional job improving human resources and getting educated in her field while still balancing her life as a single mother of three,” says Leisure World Community Manager Bob Kimble. “She recently obtained her degree inHumanResources, which further shows her commitment to improving her career,” Bob adds. “She is a very dedicated employee and is excellent in her position. Her personality and demeanor are truly an asset to Leisure World.” Monet’s co-workers feel the same. “Monet always gives good advice and makes work fun,” says Leisure World Payroll Clerk Niki Odell. “She’s personable and values Leisure World and its employees. We have worked together over the last three years, and I am very lucky to have a boss who can be a leader and a friend.” Driven to Succeed An Arizona native, Monet grew up in Chandler, Arizona, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management at Western Governors University in Phoenix. She is also a member of the Society forHumanResource Professionals of Greater Phoenix. Prior to working at Leisure World, Monet was an auto insurance claims processor at Express Systems, a company that administers aftermarket products. She then took a year off work to be a stay- at-home mom. But after a while, she felt the need to rejoin the workforce. “I like to work,” Monet explains, “and I ended up getting a job at Leisure World. I started as a part-time employee in 2013 in Accounts Payable. I then got more responsibilities and became a full-time employee. Then in 2015, I was hired as the Human Resource Manager.” Monet’s hard work didn’t go unnoticed. LeisureWorld Chief Financial Officer Jason Farnsworth saw Monet’s work ethic and talent firsthand when she started in the Finance Department. “From the very beginning, Monet displayed a strong desire to learn and do her best,” Jason says. “She has a great attitude. It has been a joy watching her grow, take on more responsibility and progress in her career.” Family and Disney Lover When Monet’s not working, she loves to spend time with her children, daughters, Nelia, age 12, and Arelia, age 9; and son Cameron, age 6. “We like to go to museums and the Arizona Science Center,” she says. “We really like movie nights at home with ice cream and popcorn. We watch movies I grew up watching, like ‘Adventures in Babysitting’ and ‘Grease.’” But there is one activity the entire family loves doing. “We’re Disneyland fans and try to go frequently,” Monet says laughing. “My kids like the characters, but I like the food. I honestly love the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. It’s seasoned to perfection. I tell everyone about it. It’s really, really good!” Monet also has a variety of other eclectic interests. “I collect Barbie dolls. I have about 50,” she shares. “I love to travel. I’m also an aspiring wine connoisseur. I’ve been learning a lot about wine over the last few years. I’m teaching myself by researching online and going to wine shops.” Like all superheros, Monet strives to continue to improve herself to provide the best for her family, Leisure World residents and coworkers. Say hello to Monet the next time you are in the Administration Building. She relishes the opportunity to chat. But in the meantime, she’s living life to the fullest.
