Leisure World News • Community • March 2022 A25 Iowa Club Submitted by Lori Borland The Iowa Club social and dinner was on Wednesday, January 19 with 49 in attendance. Iowa Bingo was played during social hour, which is great way to mingle and meet everyone. Please plan on attending our next social/dinner on March Saturday, 10 in the Rec. 2 Rendezvous Café. Social hour will start at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. We will have “Iowa Madness” to coincide with college basketball’s March Madness tournament. Plan on wearing your favorite college teams’ apparel or colors to join in the fun! The cost is $15 per person. Please have your checks made out to Lori Borland. If paying cash, please have a note with the names. Payments can be dropped off in the box on my patio at manor 1532 from March 2 to 6. Sunday, March 6 is the deadline to RSVP. Of course, because this article is being submitted before we even get on stage, we are neither able to tell you how much we raised for the Leisure World Foundation or who the winners of our 50/50 Lucky Little Lemon Tree and Cookie Count raffles are. Leisure World Computer and Technology Club Submitted by Helen Price March will be an educational month for the Computer and Technology Club! Each Monday at 9:15 a.m. (social time at 9:00 a.m.), we have Tech for Daily Living. It is free for all Leisure World residents in a hybrid format (in-person Rec. 1 Theater or via Zoom.) Program topic and Zoom link are shared via The Post and LWAZU. Programs are offered on select Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons in the Computer classroom. Check the website for topics, dates and times. The fee is $5 for non-members. The lab has computers with printers and high- speed internet. Volunteers help Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Annual membership is $10 per manor with access to meetings and programs. The Leisure World Investment Club has been educating members and residents about investing in the stock market and investing the assets of the partnership for the benefit of members since 1987. Our portfolio achieved 22% growth in 2021. Every meeting (excluding May to October), features an education component designed to help you begin or supplement your skills as an investor. March’s meeting will explore the importance of understanding price-to-earnings ratios when buying stocks. Members enjoy access to the resources and benefits derived from our affiliation with myclub and Better Investing. Non-members, new members, beginners and seasoned investors are always welcome guests at our meetings. Leisure World PEO Group Submitted by Gayle Butler The PEO Group meeting is on Friday, March 4 in the King Card Room in Rec. 1. Refreshments will be served at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of a program, the 2022-23 officers will be installed. After the meeting, the Safari Club has arranged to meet for lunch at Agritopia in Gilbert, followed by a tour of Bashas Western Art Museum in Chandler for our March outing. Pat Cuendet and Betsy Flatin have been busy arranging interesting outings for the sisters. All PEOs living in Leisure World are invited to join the group and to meet the sisters. Leisure World Photography Club Submitted by Bob Bennett The LeisureWorld PhotographyClubmeets each Saturday (October through March) from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. There will not be a regular meeting on Saturday, March 5. Members who signed up will be taking a field trip. Details for our March meetings: • March 5: Field trip to the Phoenix Scottish Highland Games for a photo shoot. • March 12: We will have a guest speaker via Zoom, Clifford Picket. His topic will be “The Ultimate Workflow.” Since we have a guest speaker, there will not be a Weekly Challenge. • March 19: We will be dark due to the Spring Art Show. • March26: TheWeeklyChallengewill be “Turquoise.” The Monthly Challenge for March is “Music.” The limit for the Monthly Challenge is three photos (8x10 or 8 ½ x 11), a title and your name on the back of each photo and place in the lockbox at manor 2312. Leisure World Shalom Group Submitted by Neesa Galanti Anyone with an interest in Judaism is welcome to attend our meetings! The Shalom Group meets the third Sunday evening of each month from October through May. The meetings are at 7:00 p.m. in the Clubroom in Rec. 1. There is always a short business meeting, followed by an interesting program, refreshments and social time. Major Jewish Holidays are observed with special events and dinners. The group continues with summer activities, including a Fourth of July potluck and afternoon movies. The Shalom Group Torah Study class is on Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in the Anniversary Room in Rec. 1. Let’s Do Something Submitted by Charlotte McLaughlin Yes, it will soon be time to have a fabulous evening at the March “Let’s Do Something” event. Mark your calendar for Monday, March 7 for an enchanted evening of musical talent provided by Melissa Gardiner, director and owner of Gardiner Vocal Studios. Her students are gifted vocalists who are honing their skills for performing. We will be entertained with group songs and solos by several performers. We meet on Monday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Rec. 1 Ballroom for our potluck. Please bring a favorite dish (dessert, main dish or salad) that you would like to share with your serving utensil, plate and plastic ware,Water will be provided. Lions Club Submitted by Carolin Lowy Spring is in the air and the Leisure World Lions Club will be offering three different activities for our neighbors and friends to support and have a good time while doing so. • Sat., March 5: Spring Pancake Breakfast, tickets are $5 per person and the place to be is at Rec. 1 Ballroom from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. We will be offering vision screening for all interested residents. • Thurs., March 10: Spring Fling Fund Raising dinner, tickets are $22 and need to be purchased ahead of time. • Fri., March 18: Annual Golf Tournament, sign up in advance and the price is $35. This includes lunch and prizes.
