Please, remember to bring your three donations for the food bank. Sporting Clays for March will take place on Thursdays: March 3, 17, 24 and 31 at Rio Salado. Meet in the shotgun facility parking lot at 7:45 a.m. to start shooting at 8:00 a.m. The cost is $25 for 100 birds, or $13 for 50. There will be no sporting clays on Thursday, March 10, since the club will be traveling to Picacho Peak on Friday, March 11, to shoot a round of clays. The cost is $35 for 100 clays, plus money for a hamburger-barbecue following the event. Meet in the Rec. 1 parking lot at 6:15 a.m. for carpooling. The Rimfire event is on Wednesday, March 9 at 7:00 a.m., at Rio Salado’s pistol bay #2. March’s Practical Pistol event is on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 a.m., at Rio Salado’s pistol bay #2. Lawn Bowling Club Submitted by Tish Murphy Can you believe it is March already? We are celebrating another season with a barbeque dinner on Wednesday, March 23 on the Promenade at Rec. 1 after bowling. If you are a current member, you may bring a guest and are invited to sign up in our Lakeside Clubhouse by Tuesday, March 15. In addition to our regularMonday,Wednesday and Friday afternoon game, we play competitive doubles games. At press time, Dan Aicher and Don Higgins were to play Rick Darke and Michael Jahr for first place. Congratulations to all that persevered through this commitment! We are still playing on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. We no longer have to play in the dark. In February, you may have seen us in our tournament clothes that we affectionately call “the whites.” If you missed us, we can be found playing triples (three per team) the week of March 7. Our singles tournament is on Wednesday, March 16. On Monday, March 21, we will have our annual International Canada vs. U.S. tournament, which is a real crowd pleaser. Leisure World Pickleball Club Submitted by Donna Macfarlane There are approximately 400 members in our club. We have many activities and playing pickleball is a lot of fun! We have free lessons on Tuesdays and Thursday. Over 75 people have come out and enjoyed learning the sport. Morning play for our members is on Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We also have Paddles Up, our new challenge Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Court 4. Come watch or participate in some exceptional pickleball! “Skills and Drills” for members is available to help hone your game. On Sunday Funday, members play evening pickleball with beverages and snacks. Leisure World in-house tournament is on March 11 and 12. Come and participate, play or watch, 50/50 draw, great prizes and a lot of fun! Leisure World Pickleball lottery, it is a deal. Tickets are available from members for $5 each. Tennis Club Submitted by Sue Weber All Leisure World residents are invited to play drop-in tennis Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on courts 3, 4 and 8. Drop-in tennis is also offered Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., on courts 9 and 10, and on Fridays on court 10 only. The Tennis Club hosted the Venture Out Invitational on Saturday, February 5. It was a beautiful sunny day for some fun and competitive tennis. Forty-three teams participated in the Second Annual Club Championship from February 10 to 13. Prizes were awarded and the winners’ names are inscribed on the championship plaque. Café Roma Pizzeria food truck provided pizza for hungry players, friends, family and Leisure World residents. The last tennis academy for the 2021-2022 season is on Wednesday, March 2 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Tennis Complex. The academy is free to all Leisure World residents who want to learn the game of tennis. Please wear non-marking shoes. See you on the courts! By early morning, we mean 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. So, set your alarm, have breakfast and come on by. We cheer each other on and groan when the wrong ball goes down into a pocket! All levels of skills are represented from true beginners, ladies rediscovering the game and ladies who have been playing for quite a while!
