Known for his welcoming personality, warm smile and dedicated work ethic, Doug is a man who wears many hats to ensure that events and entertainment are top notch in Leisure World! He diligently works to provide an enjoyable experience for residents with exceptional hospitality. “Doug is the type of worker every employer would love to have!” says Recreation Supervisor John Stickling, who is Doug’s supervisor. “He works non-stop and is always willing to help. Doug shares his knowledge with our new employees and is on a first name basis with many of our residents. He is going to be missed!” Although Doug’s work is mostly behind-the-scenes, he is known throughout the Leisure World community. As a resident and employee, Doug excels at providing excellent customer service. He consistently offers a helpful hand with his great sense of humor. “I was very surprised when I received this award,” says Doug. “I thought I was coming to the February Board Meeting to be thanked for my service before leaving, but then I was honored in this special way. I am very happy and grateful to be recognized!” Doug and his wife Patsy are second generation Leisure World residents. In 2009, they moved to Leisure to be close to his wife’s parents. “My wife’s parents were here already, and then we also decided to move to Leisure World,” says Doug. “Leisure World is a great place to live with so many amazing residents,” says Doug. “It was also nice to near family.” In December 2012, Doug became a part-time employee of the Recreation Department. He had worked a few seasons prior but due to heart health issues, took a hiatus to recuperate. Once he fully recovered, Doug was back working in the Recreation Department, where he has stayed for the past 10 years. “It has been a privilege to have Doug as part of our team all these years!” says Lifestyle Director Rhonda Cap. “He has one of the best combinations of skills and attitude, which translates to exceptional performance. Doug is a very valued part of our team and will be greatly missed!” At the end of March, Doug and Patsy will be moving to Indianapolis to be close to Doug’s ailing father. The grandparents of 12 look forward to their new chapter in life but are sad to say goodbye to all their friends in Leisure World. “I love what I do,” concludes Doug. “I love the people that I work with and all the incredible residents and friends I have made. Leisure World will always have a special place in my life. I will miss everyone!” Congratulations, Doug! We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!
