Leisure World News • Community • March 2022 A7 By Charlene Ingerson March is such a lovely month! There are so many things to celebrate in March — from all things Irish on St Patrick’s Day and the official end of winter on the vernal equinox, to our major semi-annual book sale held during Leisure World’s Arts and Crafts Festival. This year’s massive Spring Book Sale is on Saturday, March 19 on the Promenade from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Literally hundreds of books — hardbacks and paperbacks, pristine or gently used — will be available to peruse and buy. And what a variety we have to offer! Novels and mysteries, DIY and craft books, cookbooks, interesting non-fiction, biographies and many bargain books for vacation and beach reads! If you are looking for books by a favorite author, you will be able to locate them easily. Books are grouped by category type, then arranged alphabetically by author. There is lots to see at the Spring Arts and Crafts Festival, but plan to come to the Promenade during the festival for Leisure World Library’s hugely popular semi-annual book sale. In fact, come early to get the best choices. Then, come back in the afternoon to browse again; more books go on the tables throughout the day as space becomes available. Annual Fund Drive Continues Our book sales are one of the ways the Leisure World Library raises money to purchase new books for the library’s ever-changing collection. The other way is through your financial donations. We are now at the midpoint of our annual “Friends of the Library” fund drive held each February and March. As you may remember from last month’s article, the Leisure World Foundation promised to match the first $2,000 raised by the library during February to help our campaign. Thank you to all the generous donors who contributed to our fund drive in February. Your donations were matched and doubly benefited the library! Although we are halfway through our annual drive, we are still less than halfway to raising the money we need. Please give the volunteers of Leisure World Library another reason to celebrate March by making a donation. The Leisure World Library has grown into a dynamic and essential center for our residents thanks to the many financial donations in past years. Any amount you give will help us continue to keep it that way. As always, all donated funds will be used to buy new regular print and large print books of interest for Leisure World readers. New Book Section In the center of the Leisure World Library, around the couches in front of the checkout desk, is a horseshoe of tables holding the newest additions to the library’s collection. The books — all purchased within the last 18 months — are in caddies so the titles are easily visible. Here you will find the newest large print mysteries and novels, and large print nonfiction and Westerns. There are also recently purchased regular print novels and mysteries, science fiction and fantasy, biographies and nonfiction, and new additions to the Arizona collection. In addition, a list of the books bought during the previous month is kept at the checkout desk to provide a quick reference of titles that have been added to the library. If there is a recently published book that you would like to see added to our collection, you are welcome to suggest it for purchase. The suggestion forms and the box for collecting them are both located on the top center of the circulation desk next to the “flower pens.” Every suggestion is reviewed by the New Book Committee members when they meet each month. Return Books Before You Leave! Leisure World Library books may be borrowed by any community member — staff, full-time residents or seasonal visitors. Many of our seasonal residents will be busy preparing to return to their summer homes. Before you leave the area, please return any books you have borrowed from our library. By doing so, you will enable these books to stay in circulation over the summer instead of languishing on your shelves. Although our library has no late fees for overdue books, please be kind to our year-round residents and staff — bring back the books they would also like to borrow! With Gratitude Our heartfelt gratitude for the financial support given throughout the year by generous residents. Our special thanks goes out this month to Jan Redding, Shirley and James Davis, Diane and William Finnegan, and Val Bauer— all of whom made magnanimous donations in January. In addition, the following people below have donated in memory of others. Our profound thanks!
