Pinkard Construction Co. has begun construction on the new $1.5 million Urban Scouting Adventure Center for the Boy Scouts of America Denver Area Council. Working with Venture Architecture of Denver, Pinkard Construction is converting 20,000 square feet of unoccupied space into an indoor climbing facility; air rifle and archery ranges; educational kitchen space; multipurpose/performance areas; classrooms; and office spaces. Enhanced outdoor facilities will include an urban camping environment and campfire meet areas. Mechanical/electrical retrofits include the removal and replacement of electrical equipment and distribution system and a revised mechanical distribution system to accommodate the new space. Though the project is not pursuing a specific LEED rating, it will incorporate many LEED elements that are “advantageous to the function, durability and success of the project.” The Urban Scouting Adventure Center is located in the Boy Scouts’ Frederic C. Hamilton Scout Headquarters on West Sixth Avenue in Lakewood. Additionally, Urban Peak, with Pinkard Construction Co., City Projects and Shopworks Architecture dedicated the newly renovated Rox’s Place supportive youth housing facility with a ribbon-cutting and building dedication Oct. 24. The $1 million renovation to the 50-year-old facility at 1548 Ogden St. in Denver included upgrades of individual living units, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection retrofits as well as Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades. “With these improvements, Urban Peak can now offer youth ages 16 through 24 a safe and comfortable place to live as they build the confidence and skills necessary to maintain permanent, stable housing,” said Kim Easton, CEO of Urban Peak. “It’s remarkable what a supportive community environment can do for youth as they exit the streets and find their own path to success in school or work.” Rox’s Place is dedicated to former Urban Peak CEO Roxanne White. Rocky Mountain Youth Housing is the supportive youth program operating at Rox’s Place and provides 36 units of supportive housing; a community room for life skills classes, case management meetings and informal gatherings; an updated laundry room; meeting space; and accessible units to meet the needs of residents.
