Ware Malcomb provided architectural design services for the Leopold Bros. distillery at 5285 Joliet St. in Denver, which recently was named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute. Leopold Bros. is a family owned and operated small batch distillery in which environmental sustainability is a daily practice. The sustainable elements built into the new facility design include using reclaimed wood for the floor, top of the bar and the tables in the tasting room. The tabletops are made from old railroad boxcars, while the brass lighting fixtures in the tasting room were salvaged from an old ship. Ware Malcomb designed the main 20,331-square-foot production facility as well as a separate 8,743-sf barrel storage building. The production facility includes 2,182 sf of office, 2,837 sf of storage, 14,017 sf of fabrication space and a 1,295 sf mercantile/tasting room. “We wanted to create a unique and inviting space for the public to come and experience what Leopold Bros. is all about, while also meeting the technical requirements for a top-of-the-line production facility,” said Matt Chaiken, regional director of Ware Malcomb’s Denver office. “The offices, ample storage areas and separate barrel storage building complete the design. We are confident Leopold Bros. will enjoy their new home here in Denver for many years to come.” The general contractor for the project was Murray & Stafford Inc.
