Hord Coplan Macht designed the new PK-12 school in Elbert on the same site the original school built in the 1930s. The new school was designed to allow for community access to the gymnasiums, cafeteria and the library, which is shared between the school and the community of Elbert. To emphasize the importance of the school as a joint-use community facility, the design strived not only to provide direct access to the public spaces, but also to provide views between them. During the occasion of a community event, one will see the school activated and energized as a basketball game takes place on the lower level, concessions are served in the main level, and the public visits the community library on the upper level.
