The scope of this course is so vast that we’ll only be able to do a sampling, but we’ve picked some that we think you’ll enjoy. In Part I we’ll feature the usual suspects Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi (aka Joe Green) and look into some opera. Part II will be Nov. 6, Nov. 20 and Dec. 4. The issue of race in the military extends from colonial times to the present day. Join Active Minds as we explore a chapter of this story from World War II: the Tuskegee Airmen. These African American pilots were the first black military aviators in the U.S. armed forces. We will tell their story of struggle and triumph and bring this issue into a current context. Kathleen Arnold explores the American Revolution through the eyes of the artists of the time. The American Revolutionary Era began in 1763 and ended in 1789. Often the history and events of this period were captured by artists on canvases or print and made available for public display.  But is what we see in historic artworks reality or merely the imagination of the artist who painted them?  And who are those people portrayed in historical paintings?  Join Kathleen as she goes inside famous Revolutionary Era artwork and explains the real history inside the pictures.
