Press down with a finger and the note will sound higher. Add more strings and bingo – you have a violin. Or a cello or any of a number of stringed instruments. The concept goes way back in time, as we'll discover in this music-filled Active Minds program. From the era of ancient, wandering troubadours to the brilliance of today's concert-hall virtuosos, we'll trace the violin's history and listen to sweet melodies through the ages. Please sign up at the Activities Desk. This program is being brought to you by Windsor Gardens, Springbrooke Retirement and Assisted Living, Porter Adventist Hospital, Paradyme Mortgage Inc, Garden Plaza of Aurora and Active Minds®.  WG COMMUNITY ‘GARAGE’ SALE: Friday, July 20, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, July 21, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the AUDITORIUM  COLORADO FEEDING KIDS, THE NEWEST OPTIMIST COMMUNITY PROJECT : Tuesday, July 24, at 1 p.m. in the AUDITORIUM. Did you know that nearly one in seven Colorado children live in poverty? And nearly one in five Colorado kids may not know when or where they will get their next meal. Join the Optimists in welcoming Ken Bradley, Executive Director for Colorado Feeding Kids, which purchases rice, soy, dehydrated vegetable, macaroni and vitamins in bulk to pack into individual nutritious meals – at a low cost of 25 cents per serving. Ken will talk about the organization and what they have managed to accomplish thus far, but most importantly what their goals are for the unmet needs that still exist. Learn about the food packs and how they are put together.  Imagine how many kids could be fed if every Windsor Gardens resident gave $1. We will take donations (of any size) toward our goal of raising money that day and every day forward until October 20. And we are looking for volunteers to assist us in putting the packs together right here at home on October 20 in CENTERPOINT. Please sign up at the Activities Desk. Light refreshments will be served.  REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM SEMINAR: This is a two-part seminar on Wednesday, July 25, and Friday, July 27, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the AUDITORIUM. But there are many more, less obvious situations that can make us vulnerable as well. The Refuse to be a Victim  seminar discusses these situations and how to avoid them. Topics covered: mental preparedness, home security, travel security, physical security, psychology of continued from page 19 criminals, automotive security, cyber security and personal protection. Cost for this class to cover materials is $10, which may be paid at the Activities Desk  FAIRMOUNT PRESENTATION – DECISIONS! DECISIONS! Thursday, July 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the CENTERPOINT.
