June 2018 Page 7 Maintenance Matters From Bill Walsh Facilities Maintenance Manager It seems like every month I must write about things that are going wrong. It can be hard to see the really great things that are all around us when we are constantly getting calls about things that are going the wrong way. The other day I was on a two-story roof investigating a roof leak that had leaked into two apartments where the residents were understandably upset. My cell phone rang with news that water from a bathtub leak was running through the ceiling of the unit below in another building. It was right about then that I noticed a tree that I had planted many years ago that has grown to over 40 feet. In that moment of gut-wrenching stress, there was this beautiful tree looking down on me saying, “Thank you for planting me and helping me to grow.” I took about 10 seconds to salute that wonderful tree before climbing down the ladder to face the next group of frustrated, flooded residents. I will be on vacation soon, and I am going to avoid saying or hearing anything that is not positive or uplifting. I challenge all of those reading this to try and spread some cheer this summer, listen to the birds sing and pass that message along to your neighbors. I think we could all benefit from some good news. When you walk around this little paradise you can find so many things that are good and right. Take the time to look around and take in the beauty and appreciate all of the things here that make this place so special. You deserve some time to thoroughly enjoy all that this community has to offer. After all, it’s right at your doorstep. As for me – I am hopeful that a week in the woods will help erase at least a few of those bad news phone calls. Until next month take it all in and pass it along. S o m e t h i n g p o s i t i v e ?
