A few months back I found myself desperately goog-
ling the list of US federal holidays in the hopes of dis-
covering a long weekend and it so happened that July
4 th was on the list. As I scrolled down, colorful pic-
tures of American flags, cheerful people, parties, fire-
works and parades filled my browser page. Over the
years, America has witnessed numerous July fourth
festivities to honor its declaration of independence.
But then I stumbled upon a lesser known story about
a unique celebration that took place many years ago
in India. Even more surprising was the person who
hosted it- Swami Vivekananda.
Vivekananda, being a revolutionary spiritual thinker
inspired many people around the world through his
noble mission of improving the lives of underprivi-
leged people.

have spoken clearly and loudly to exit from the Eu-
ropean Union. The next three months will be crucial
for the country when the new team at 10 Downing

tect the country’s interests.
But the question is how united the Kingdom will be
to begin the talks.
The immigration issue was about numbers coming
from Eastern Europe -- about people who don’t have
English as their first language. But no more. Now an-

The impact of Brexit on three million British Asians,

On the 10 th of June, Hindus of the Greater Phoenix
Area gathered at Chinmaya Mission Goloka to attend
the first of the three discourses imparted by Swami
Chidatmananda. The talks encompassed the Hindu
perspective of the maxim ‘Be Fearless’. “The Vedas
say be fearless, fear nothing”. Swami Chidatmanan-
da declared. “God is the one being of whom we shall
never be afraid of, because he is our own self.” Swami
Chidadmananda was captivating, able to capture the
intricacies of the Vedas in such a way that a child
could understand. His examples and stories were en-
gaging, both witty and applicable to modern day sit-
uations. Swami Chidatmananda also offered guided
meditation classes prior to each lecture. Participants
reported afterwards feeling a great sense of solace
and spiritual development.
Swami Chidatmananda is the Acharya of Chinmaya
Mission Hyderabad, and is the Regional Head of the
Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He is a law graduate
of Osmania University and began his spiritual quest
when he joined Sandheepany in 1989 under the in-
struction of Swami Purushottamanandaji.
