August 15, 2016 marks the 70 th anniversary of In-
dia’s independence from British rule. India Associa-
tion of Phoenix invites you to come and celebrate
this joyous and momentous occasion with us! Please
mark your calendars for the 20 th of August, and plan
to attend our grand Independence Nite gala to be
held at Arcadia High School from 4:00 p.m. onward.
Traditionally, India celebrates Independence Day as
one of its three national holidays. To mark the oc-
casion, the prime minister hoists the Indian flag on
the ramparts of the historical site Red Fort in Del-
hi. Similar flag hoisting ceremonies take place in all
the state capitals. This is usually followed by celebra-
tory festivities featuring cultural events that high-
light India’s rich and varied heritage. In keeping with
this tradition, our Independence Nite activities will
be focused on two key themes – Patriotism (love for
the Motherland) and Regional Flavors (a cultural
journey through different regional areas of India).
The gala will feature dances, musical interludes, and
short skits based on historic, patriotic and regional
themes.
India Association of Phoenix is a non-profit volun-
teer based premium umbrella organization that rep-
resents all sister organizations and non-profit organ-
izations of Indian heritage in the State of Arizona.
We invite all of you to attend our event and make it
a grand success. Please visit our web-page at IAPHX.
