Gallun Snow, with our partners Stanley Beaman & Sears, RMH Group, Structural
Consultants, OfficeScapes and M.A. Mortenson Company, recently completed the
first phase of the UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) Renovation project.
This 24,080-squre-foot project grows the NICU from 19 open patient bays to 32
beds in private or twin patient rooms for premature or critically ill babies, in order
to better accommodate the healing process and fully integrate family participation.
Phase 1 was completed this spring, opening 22 of 32 beds on the unit, and they have
been full since opening day.
We were challenged with developing a design that reflects the advanced medicine
provided by UCHealth. Using a contemporary aesthetic, our design team worked with
the clinical staff to create an environment that fosters multiple aspects of healing for
these fragile patients, including reduced noise pollution, color changing lighting to
encourage healthy circadian rhythms, and space for family comfort and participation
in the treatment process. Each room includes a convertible sleep sofa that offers
seating with a table during the day and a bed overnight.
Projects like this allow Gallun Snow to bring our client’s vision to life. With a creative

tive, the client’s perspective and, most importantly, the family’s perspective.
