In 2011, BCER Group along with MDW Architecture, Martin/Martin and Weitz
Company undertook the remodeling of Brookfield Properties’ newly purchased
1801 California building in Denver. The goal was to modernize and create a
“Brookfield Class A” office building. The remodel project is 1.3 million square
feet with 52 floors and originally was constructed in 1980. The renovation in-
cluded the lobby, a fitness center, new elevator cabs and controls, new con-
ference facilities and building infrastructure improvements. Base building
improvements included replacement of the 18th and California façade with a
monumental glass entrance. Street-level retail included a new 5-star restaurant,
coffee shop, an eatery, and convenience store. To date, over 75 percent of the
building has been renovated.
Brookfield Properties and BCER Group have developed a relationship over the
course of several decades that has been built upon foundational core values
such as integrity, humility and accountability. We’ve shared the courage and the
passion to create innovative and functional spaces.

partner, giving us the opportunity to provide service to not only 1801 California
but Republic Plaza as well. It has been a pleasure to be involved with a team that
is as passionate about the upkeep and performance of the buildings as we are.
Brett Pumphrey and Kathy Gish lead the Tenant Finish team at BCER Group and
currently design the build-out of over 1 million square feet of tenant space per
year. With primary expertise in corporate office renovations, their skills and capa-
bilities complement each other in renovations, expansions and new construction.
